Abstract

The discontinuation of studies, due to difficulties in basic mathematical knowledge, is a major challenge for universities, which is why various support measures are offered during the study entry phase. Usually the support opportunities are carried out without an accompanying, data-based analysis that could prove the effectiveness of the support. With the help of a comprehensive data base consisting of data sets from support measures combined with administrative data sets of the Student information system, the group of student drop-outs can be precisely determined at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences. This linking of the data is protected by data protection law and enables the investigation of the data sets of currently over 5000 students. The present article describes the planned methods for the identification of indicators of these students in order to recognize approaching drop-out at an early stage for future students.
